JHULKA

Jhulka takes its name from the traditional blouse worn by the Bhomti community in Rajasthan.

Historically Bhomti women have gathered to decorate clothing in their signature style of embroidery, featuring bright colours and imagery of daily life. Each stitch is done by hand and embodies the culture of this unique mountain region.

With the increasing availability of machine-made cloth coupled with the demand for women to work outside of the home, this craft is on the verge of extinction. Basic Health Care Services and DABU have teamed up with the Bhomti women in hopes of creating a sustainable way forward.
